I Am A Leaf

I Am A Leaf

By t.a.mayes

I am a leaf

Picked up by a draft

rising above the ground

bobbing up and down

moving swiftly then carried upward

in a lazy spiral thermal lifts me

higher and higher, corkscrew quickens

Cold draft sweeps in

rapidly falling faster still

Now floating gently in a tumble

Sky Earth Sky Earth Sky

Bobbing again treetops and clouds

blue sky and sunbeams flit by

til gently I rest upon the land

Caught by another gust!

Cartwheeling on my pointed edges

Swiftly spinning across your lawn

Finally resting against a bush

Exhilarated from the ride

I am a leaf.
