I am lost...
Lost in emotion,
lost in options,
lost in opportunities,
and lost in life's direction.
I want everything and
I can achieve almost anything but
I must sacrifice something.
The time to choose has long since passed
and I have stalled.
My hesitation has its own price,
damage done and opportunities lost.
My indecision has cost me,
maybe more than I even realize.
My fear paralyzes me and becomes stronger
the longer I let it remain in control.
All I know for certain is that I can not remain here,
I must decide.
I can have the known life.
It has been good, at times even wonderful.
It has also been hard, and at times terrible.
It comes with comforts and promises of improvements,
but like anything, it has no guarantees.
The known is the wider path,
most of the stones are cleared and it is well lit.
It is safe but not scenic,
there are hills but no mountains...
I make it sound boring but that's not right.
It is a comfortable life.
It is a life that most people would gladly trade for.
The problem is, I know there is more to life
than just being comfortable.
There is another path.
It is narrow and steep.
There are rocks to trip you and
ravines that threaten to swallow you whole.
It crosses rivers without bridges and
crests mountains with no pass.
The trail is unmarked so you have to make your own way and
backtrack when you stumble.
Why would anyone choose the unknown path?
Because the reward is what lies beyond the trials.
The magnificent views,
the clear river water, and
the purity of the crisp air.
The excitement of traveling an unknown path calls out
to my adventurous side while the fear of failure keeps me
rooted in my indecision.
Meanwhile, I sink where I stand and soon,
I will lose access to either path...
