I Am Me

I woke in the morning

To find something strange

A pounding in my head

A weird kind of change.

I couldn't move or stir

So I just laid still

And wondered if I was dead

After a nice long chill.

I moved my head down

To catch of glimpse of me

And I was shocked and scared

At what I had to see.

I once was a young boy

Who knew nothing and all

But now I had grown

And become rather tall.

My muscles ached all over

And my body looked weird

I was twice my heigh from before

And growing quite the beard.

Lifting myself up

I saw my own reflection

And wondered who was this man

Who lacked any perfection.

The pain over the years had caught me

And indented in my face.

There was no more color

Instead shadows took its place.

The experiences I've had

With the problems I've seen

Made me who I am today

Though I look pretty mean.

So I got back in bed

And tried to go to sleep

Because in my dreams I'm still me

And my happiness I can keep.
