I am Me!

I Am Me! Poem by D'Vante Jerrell Chapman

If I don't do the same things as you
Does that not make me a man?
If I walk and talk differently than you do
Am I any less of a human?
Oh no that means I'm outstanding
How could you understand?
My life, my struggles, and all these things
Was once bruised but touched by healing hands
Yes, I am a phenomenal being
I am a beast
A lone soldier without a shield
The world is like my jungle and the streets are a battlefield
Son of a King
So I am the Fresh Prince
Journeyed away from my village
Haven't returned since
A Super-Woman mother
The rock that holds us together
Please Mama fly back home
Hold me in your arms because I feel so alone
Yet, my spirit's everlasting
Beaten, but not easily broken so I'll survive
Been attacked by backstabbers blessed to be alive
Not your ordinary, visionary
So unusual
Out of this world extraterrestrial
Seeds of wisdom buried in my brain
Blinded by fury, but can hear the world's cries and wonder why, why
I'm subtle to the world's pain
Teardrops rain down on my window pane
Flow heavily like waterfalls, but I came to a dead end so I fall, fall, but get back up again
I'm like a giant towering over mountains
A beacon of hope but a habitual sinner
I pray the Lord forgives me for my soul needs cleansing from
these...dirty lies
Marked by these fire flames on my chest
Walk through this gunfire while it tries to burn away my skin, but I'm bulletproof
You only get two directions
Pikachu
So God I choose you
I know you wouldn't put more on me than I can bear
Married to the game but more interested in public affairs
Greatness is like a vessel coursing through my veins
Eat up knowledge to keep me from going insane
Fearless, a bit ambitious
One with the sun in the moon
My heart's stuck on an emotional rollercoaster
Ride this vicious life cycle to the end
Sleepwalking through my dreams with my eyes wide open
Hoping, I can spread my wings
Though, I'm trapped in a cage no way to break free
A little mocking bird says: "Think outside the box, you will be relieved."
Boom! Bam! Crash!
Landed on Earth
The essence of time caused my rebirth
Some people say destinies are written on the walls, but I create my own
So get on the track
Try to run the green-mile in my shoes
Playing a dangerous game will thou loose?
Have fallen but now I stand on my own two feet
The succulence of the fruits of my labor taste bitter sweet
One day I will be a prodigy
But in this moment...I AM ME!
