I Am More Than What They Think
I Am More Than What They Think
Applying to college has made me realize a lot
Mostly about what I am not
I am not a number, a GPA, or an SAT score
I am not just a statistic coming through the admissions door
I am not my extracurricular activities
Or the awards that are supposed to define my abilities
I am not a minority advantage
I am not a gender gain
And unfortunately society is to blame
They’re trying to put me in a box
To define me for something I’m not
I’m not just a bunch of numbers or words on a page
And I have something to say
I am confident, beautiful, and strong
I am a female that’s ready to take over the world
I am committed, hardworking, loving, caring, and ready to unfurl
I am quirky, nerdy, a lover of games, and a person in love with athletics
I am also interested in genetics
I am good at math and love every subject in my school
I am actually pretty cool
I am someone who is loyal and someone you can trust
I am also someone that is very blunt
I am Mexican, Filipino, and the girl with the longest hair at my school
I am a pianist, singer, and composer
I am a food fanatic; you can find me cooking chicken in the kitchen
I am a survivor, of the hardships of life
These are all the things I am
These are all the things I wish people could see
Because everyone has more to them
Than the numbers or words on a page
We all have something more to say
