As humans

We are taught to look in the mirror

to define ourselves by the

amount of pimples on our face

the clearer patches on our skin

We are told to embrace our flaws

yet magazines set unrealistc standards

of beauty

We fall into the trap of wanting to be like them

I can only speak for myself when I say this

I will not subject myself to the lies, the makeup

the beauty

I define myself by my art

My need to create

My need to survive

With every note that is sung

every rest held to the correct time

I pour myself

into the facet of my voice

Do not be confused

I am more than my voice

I am how my art changes

becomes strengthened

I do this because at the end of the day

I am my art.
