I am no longer a child

I am no longer a child

The day you left,

I knew things would be forever altered.

What once was shielded-

From my young eyes,

Was no longer.

You left suddenly with no warning.

The breath was stolen from my body,

My heart shattered.

You were taken from this earth-

On a day of thanks of all days.

I am no longer a child.

Tears fell, and cries escaped from bodies-

Your death left a hole in everyone.

This type of pain is not for children.

I am no longer a child.

I am no longer protected.

Death was on showcase-

And pain was the announcer.

This is the reality.

Nothing fixed the pain-

Only time dulls it.

A child I am no longer.
