I Am Not

I am not black

I am not white

I have always been in the in-between

When I look back

I see a life

That clings to my memory like a long lost dream

I am not a person you would remember

I am not a person you normally would see

I come through like a desert December

Run quickly through the sand and then let the Sierra be

I am not what you think

I am not what you know

Like the sunsets I do sink

My emotions run deep like the ocean below

I am not scared

I am not afraid

Don’t ever be fooled; I am fearlessly made
