I Am Not

I am not the sunrise by the ocean,

I am not the sound of birds in the morning,

I am not the sound of laughter,

I am not the things that make us kind.

I am a cry at night from the hurt,

I am the scream of horror in a hospital,

I am the poor and homeless,

The lost and forgotten.

I am what the world made me,

Not what the world can be.
