I Am Not Another Statistic

To those who do not believe in me,

Thank you for giving me a chance to prove you all wrong.

Though I was raised in a broken household,

One with screaming, crying, divorce

Alcohol, violence, force

I have not touched a single drug in my life.

Though my past says that I am twice as likely to drop out of high school before my peers,

Though you say I will never succeed in my choice of career,

I am not another statistic.

Though I have struggled with depression,

I have never took it out with aggression,

Unlike I have seen in my youth.

I will rewrite my own story, for I am the only author of my life.

My past is only the beginning chapters of my novel

And my pen is not running out of ink, my hands will not wobble.

I will succeed in my future, no matter what you all may say.

You all read what Dessiree had wrote to me that day,

To live my life to the fullest extent,

That it will pass me by, you all know where she went.

God rest her soul.

If she believed in me and everything I strove for,

Why would any of you think I do not have anything in store?

I love you all very much, and nothing would ever change that.

I just wish that I could discuss these topics with you all without preparing for combat.

And even if I do fail like you all say I will,

At least I strove for my dreams, I do not care the price of the college bill.

But I will not let that happen, I am going to try and achieve my goals until the day I die.

And when I do, I know that Desiree will congratulate me up in the sky.

Sincerely,

Haylee G.
