I am not Black
I am not black.
I know I cannot understand.
I grew up away
from the fear and the strife
that you suffer though everyday.
I won’t have to live through the
tears and the pain,
of losing a loved one just cause of their skin.
Try as I might,
I won’t ever see,
the world that you walk in today.
Some people just like me,
they might even claim,
no hand in injustice today.
They say it’s the past.
It’s long gone today,
all wrongs of the past have been righted.
But I look all around me,
I’m starting to see,
The world’s not quite how I had pictured it.
I’m not black,
I don’t see the things
You have been though.
Just cause I can’t,
doesn’t mean that I won’t try.
I’m still learning
But I understand the bigger issue.
To see real change,
I will be by your side…
