I am not a poet

I am not a poet.

Thoughts clouded my mind that night.

I could not sleep so I tried watching TV

It was no use and started to read,

But the book was only stained paper

And those thoughts wanted to escape.

I picked up a pen and started catching

Those words stuck in my head.

I am not a poet.

Rhyme scheme and meter have been unimportant

All that matters are getting those thoughts out of my head.

I am not a poet.

I do not write every day

There are times my pen stays on my desk

Times my notebook is untouched for weeks.

But no matter how long I stray

I always come back and catch those thoughts in my head.

I am not a poet but I write poetry.

The words I cannot say out loud

The words inside my mind

The words that describe the landscape before me

Are the words I write.

I am not a poet.

I am not the best not even close to average,

But I write with my heart.
