I am not a Poet

I am not a poet,

And when I do I try,

I put myself down,

And give up every time.

I am not a poet,

Though I would like to be.

I find I can never express

My feelings accurately.

I am not a poet,

Though I have tried many times.

I often get stuck

At the end of each line.

I am not a poet,

But I feel things too.

I long to express them

As any good poet could do.

I am not a poet,

But I'm an artist with woes.

I find in my brushstrokes

What I can’t find in words.

I am not a poet,

But I am a student, I learn

Every day that life

Can take unexpected turns.

I am not a poet,

But I have felt pain.

And I want to speak for everyone,

Who can’t do the same.

I am not a poet,

But I long to write

All of the things

That have been on my mind.

I am not a poet,

And I am not you,

So I can't say I know you,

And all you’ve been through.

I am not a poet,

But I want to find the courage,

To reach out to those people,

Without voice nor advantage.

I am not a poet,

Although, I sure wish I was,

So I could make a difference,

To a worthy cause.

I am not a poet,

But if I could change the world...

With my words assembled ways,

In which I could be heard…

I am not a poet,

But if my words touched a one life

I would die a happy woman,

Knowing damn well I tried.
