I am the Protagonist

Sitting, staring, storytelling

Prying apart the pages, watching the lesson unfold

Knowing there's more, heart pounding till the end

Listening to the stories of people, creatures, and worlds

Real and fantasy, bit by bit, filling the void

Feeling the cold receed, smiles and awe in the gaze

I want to know all I can

To see characters in worlds beyond grow and change

Seeing the battles fought in mind and soul

As I fight within myself as well

Letting the story take me away

As I read the book from page to page

Letting myself be inspired

By things I've only known as stories

To travel when at home,

To wonder when I am cold,

To feel myself rise when I've spiraled,

To see purpose in what has been casted away

Looking with a new eye upon a world I thought I knew

Letting myself see wonder, when before there was only strife

Breathing and calming, re-igniting when I feel burnt out

Reading, seeing, believing,

A book to read

A story to see

As I become the hero

I wanted to be.
