I am the Rock

I am the rock.

I am the solid surface upon which everyone leans

As I sink lower into the ground.

I hold the weight of their problems, but not a single person

Knows of mine.

“I need help” they all say

And I oblige, giving advice

And aid

And love.

But in return,

I must hide how I feel

My anger

My annoyance

My pain

The bad feelings must be buried deep inside

Hidden from those who need me.

I can be happy and joyous

I can be loved for my support and my strength.

But I cannot lean on those who lean on me.

I am tired of the burdens that I hold,

But not weary enough to cast them off.

Because if I leave, who will help those in need?

I am the rock.
