I Am... Scholarship Slam
(x,y)
In whatever before there was, the before that we don't remember, did I know where my life would take me?
Did I know that unforseen circumstances, unfortunate situations, and unexplained phenomena would elevate and deflate my life in sharp ascents and dizzying drops?
Would I have changed things if I had known?
Who gets to explain or put meaning to the unknown forces in life that we cannot recognize? Is every dip in a graph a negative consequence? Is every rise a triumph?
They say that perception is reality, but does that apply to a map of lines on a progression chart?
I did not decide for my origin to be (0,0), yet there I manifested. Whether or not I still reside there is unknown.
What form does my life create? A parabola, an ellipse, a tangent line, a cosine? Have I gotten to see just how far the extreme points of my life stretch?
Perhaps someday when the calculator fails, when the pencil runs out of lead, when the graph crosses the threshold into infinity, will I see just how far I've come. With a flashlight's beam I cannot see what's behind me, but with a bird's eye view I will see everything.
