I Am... Scholarship Slam

I am a fifteen year old art piece.
My blank canvas has been painted with scars and laugh lines.
I am a representation of ten houses
and the raptures and hardships of army living.
I am five years of my father’s overseas sacrifices
and my mother’s meals he couldn’t sit at the table for.
I am the embodiment of the pleasure of the equine environment
and the anticipation at the end of a tied baseball game.
I am the epitome of too long essays and facile math equations
and the buzz of social gatherings.
I am the intellect of my grandfather
and the delicate features of my mother.

Every fiber of me is sacred,
Laced with unforgettable faces and undying aspirations.
The skin of my hand has stroked a child’s head
and chafed against rough leather and gritty labours.

I am each fault on my canvas
and my pride in every single one.
