I Am A Student.
I am a student of simple words--
and complex ones, too.
Paper between my fingers
A memory of svelte and silken cuts
Entirely worth a moment preserved in plastic parchment.
I am an envoy of simple premises--
and complex ones, too.
Witness to a reign of fear and loneliness
I am distant
Because I am afraid my soul will die from love too strong to bear.
I am a survivor of simple grievances--
and complex ones, too.
They took from me identity
'Til left with nothing, I was none
And from a glass-shard ground I was forced to rebuild my face.
I am a messenger of simple concepts--
and complex ones, too.
I know it's hard to love a bitter reflection
But I swear, I promise you
Someday you will be glad you'd found a you to love.
I am an author
Forged and fired
by the words and the heart I reclaimed
From a very sad place and a very sad time
A definition, like a dictionary
Of what I can withstand--
and from poetry, so simple and so complex
I learned to understand.
