I Am Who I Am

I am who I am,

Deprived and depressed

It takes me a lot

To take this pain off my chest

You ask me, how are you

I say that I’m fine

This question is countered

With the one, “Who am I?”

Why do I feel this way

I wish that I knew

Knew all of the outcomes

And what I could do

I wish you could know me

From the inside and out

So you can see how I’m drowning

In this ocean of doubt

Through all of the years

I didn’t give you a sign

To say that I’m hurting

Through this struggle of mine

I am who I am

Though I want to be me

I can ask my Lord, Jesus

To come set me free

I am who I am

Deprived and depressed

It took me my life

To get this pain off my chest
