I am who I am

Tue, 09/15/2015 - 19:30 -- csutton

My skin is mahogany

So are my eyes

My hair is pitch

Just like the night sky

My back is tough

But my lips are silk

For I speak truth and heart

Not filth

I am of African descent

Obvious that may be

But I am not ashamed

Because it's a part of me

Created by God

To challenge my worth

Of what would become of me

On planet Earth

I know I'll face hardships

There's nowhere to hide

But I don't need to

I'll face them with pride

Yes, I am black, colored or negro

But I belong to a race of warriors

Leaders and heroes
