I am who I choose to be

Who am I?

This is the frequent question I come upon.

This is the question all colleges ask.

This is the question that churches ask.

But there isn’t just one, single answer.

I am one being,

But also many.

I am a daughter, a friend, a student.

I am kind, passionate, caring.

I am happy but stressed.

I am alone but do not feel lonely.

There are thousands of ways to describe who I am.

But one thing about me is that I have a goal,

A goal to achieve this dream of mine.

A dream of helping others,

Helping them through the best of my ability.

I am fortunate and have plenty,

I want to use everything I have for others.

I want to be a nurse.

I want to interact with others and help them.

Ever since I was young, I have had a passion to help others.

I have two eyes, two arms, two legs, and a body that functions well.

I have a mom and a dad who give me unending love.

I go to an amazing school and have amazing friends.

I am blessed with all of these things,

And I feel that it is my turn, in return,

To give instead of receive.

I’m nearly sure that’s what God wants me to do,

And it’s what I want to do.

It makes me happy putting a smile on others faces.

Seeing all those smiles motivates me

To push through and go even further.

Although being an Asian may be an obstacle,

But it is also what makes me a bit unique.

Although being a female may be an obstacle,

But it is what helps me be unique.

There will always be hurdles throughout my life,

But how I see them alters who I become.

Changing my perspective changes who I am.

I may be hypocritical at time, but everyone has flaws.

I accept imperfection because that’s what makes us human.

I am a dreamer,

I dream of endless possibilities,

New goals and a better future.
