I am a woman
Stuck to the wall like a piece of gum
Festering alone in rot
Stepped on, squished, smushed
Politics determine what someone does with their body
Their chance to exist without burden
Taken so easily and quickly
Don’t tell me this country respects women
Don’t tell me this world cares for women
You see us and you want one thing
We’re just a candy bar at a store
Easy to grab and devour whole,
Forget the agony, the regret, the torture that comes with it
Forget that your mother gave her life for you to live
After all, she’s “just a woman”
Men repeated the idea of Eve being born from 1 of Adam’s ribs
Because they couldn’t accept that women created life
There is a reason she is called Mother Nature
We are destroying her, but she is only a woman
You are only, a woman
And being a woman isn’t a concept or feeling
It’s knowing you can’t win
You can’t stop the suffering whenever you want
I know I am just gum on a wall
But people won’t listen to me, they’ll walk right by
I’m not much different from a woman.
