I Am A Writer
This is Why I Write
By Alyssa Morris
Writing has always been my escape;
My safe haven in which I am free to express
All of my hopes and dreams.
I can place
My fears, my joys, every part of me
Into a pattern of words
And suddenly, my mind is clear again.
Some view writing as just a hobby
Or something therapeutic;
But to me
Writing is so much more than that.
When I was but thirteen
I had no choice but to reinvent myself.
I sought an outlet where I could
Express my frustrations
And teenage angst.
No one really understood;
I felt like a shadow
Of the person I once was.
But this awkward place in my life
Inspired me to begin to write;
And thus my inner poet was born.
Writing started a fire inside of me;
An unquenchable desire to say
Everything that I needed to express.
I fell in love with writing
Because I knew
No matter who or what came my way
That it could never get in the way of my writing.
No one could ever interrupt me
Or tell me that the things I think and feel are irrelevant
Because everything I needed to say was on paper
And no one could ever take that away from me.
Writing always has been
And always will be my passion.
It means not only the world
But all the worlds that my own words can create.
It means never having to apologize for the way I see the world
Because my views are unique.
And no one else can change them.
To me, writing does not simply stop on paper
But continues on in the mind of the writer.
I am the writer
And this is why I write.
