I Am Your Mother

I am your Mother

and hearing the first time you laugh

is worth a thousand epidurals in my back.

I am your Mother

because I would take sleep deprivation for a lifetime

just for an excuse to hold you all night long.

I am your Mother

so I embrrassed myself by dragging you into your first day

while you hit, scratched, ad spit on me.

I am your Mother

so I didn't eat lunch for a year

in hopes of getting you the car you wanted.

I am your Mother

and that's why I was furious

when you cried over the one who hurt you.

Because I did not spend 9 months creating your heart

just for it to be broken.

I do not love you

because I am your Mother.

I am your Mother

because I love you.
