I am …What you failed to see
I am Brandon C.
I am a man with determination and other aspirations to achieve.
Knowing that other people would not want that for me.
They want me to achieve things that are not bliss.
Rather that I stay that simple person with no voice or gift.
Stay the stereotype that is laid out for me
Do this and do that!
Wear this not that!
Look like that!
Don’t speak like that!
Aren’t you black?!
Hold on; “ Aren’t you black?!”
I don’t do the same things as you.
My race is in question because I don’t want to be something like you.
I am not what you want me to be
A stereotypical bug on the street
Knowing going after my goals and chasing my dreams
Is what is going to complete me!
I am not going to wear those clothes.
I am not going to speak that way.
I am not going to be the image you want me be to portray
I am not going to do the things that make me like you.
A person that we know that obeys street rules
I will not be that person that you want me to be
Because that’s not me.
I am a man that’s getting his education
I am going after that degree
I am going to leave your thoughts with you and continue to achieve.
Reach my goals and let you speak.
As you speak
I believe you are an ant coming at my feet
Being crushed to see me do what I believe.
I follow this one law perfectly
“If you not helping me achieve, why should I care about the words you speak to me?”
Your negative thoughts are nothing to me
I am the man with drive
I am the man with ambition
I am me
I am …
What you fail to see.
