I Am......A Puzzle
I am a puzzle,
someone who is made up of jagged pieces that are a little rough around the edges,
but they all find a way to fit together,
to create a unique individual.
There are some pieces that fit perfectly.
Pieces like marching band,
where the syncopated beats of my heart send rhythms flooding through my veins,
and even though we are all individuals, together we march as one.
Pieces like photography, that just click.
The weight of my world sits in my hands, not on my shoulders.
If my life shifts out of focus, and things don't work out,
I can always take another shot.
There are some pieces that I am still picking up.
Pieces of my life that have shattered like glass and fallen to the floor of my soul.
Pieces like my fragile heart, that I am still putting back together.
And I am not quite the same because all of those jagged edges don't really fit,
and the sharp memories of the past cut through me like a knife.
There are pieces of myself that I am still finding.
Pieces like my future.
I am going off to college and have no idea what lies ahead,
but I know I will discover more about myself than I have ever known.
I'll find out that it's okay to be different, to make mistakes, to have regrets,
and live life the way it's supposed to be.
Pieces of finding what I love.
I'll always love the thrill of backpacking and fearlessly exploring the great unknown,
falling asleep under the twinkling eyes of stars that illumiate the infinite sky,
and hiking under the protection of trees that tower over me.
The outdoors are where I feel most at home.
And even with all of these pieces I am still not complete.
There are pieces I am still finding,
pieces that are tough to fit together,
pieces I will still be picking up,
and pieces that will fit perfectly.
But it's okay.
Because I still have time for all of the pieces to fall into place.
