I Am...Art
I Am Art
From my head to my soul
To my soles in this heat
On concrete with
Chalk
Walk the talk
Talk the walk
Actions speak louder
Prouder than
I've ever been before
"Dad look at what I drew
Me right by you!"
"One day I'll buy you
The greatest pencils"
U became tencils
Never used stencils
I want to get this right
Before I ever write
My name
In the corner
Border
Lines so smooth you'd never know that
Pencil and eraser shavings and shading
Shaving away layers of skin
Graphite and charcoal
Blackening my hands
Like scars from being scarred
And falling a little too hard
No band-aids upon standing
Planning
My next piece more carefully
You were always there for me
Guiding the Kraft
No macaroni
But when I drew food
You knew
What it was
"You're improving"
Yes, I'm improving
And I'm proving
To myself
That I can Art this
By myself
No help
Aside from the occasional
Reference to the original
My hands are no Xerox machine
But mechanics clean
Like scrubbed my technique
To the umteenth degree
And some teeth
Between
Lips
Smile
I managed to make them
Perfect
Managed to make them perfect
Entirely worth it
But what was worth it when my greatest critic
Never woke up
Woke up
From my slumber
To flashing ambulance light
Late night
Please fight
Please... Fight
My pencil work turned to pen
But not quite write
Unable to right
I've always been left
And that night when you left
I cried
Yes
So much that my pages became soaked
And my works revoked
Provoked to pick up our connection again
Perfection again
Started with the eyes a
Fire in them
Erase
Erase
Lighter in them
Frustrations taken out
Taking out
Every single emotion felt
Tip felt
Pen--Ding
Elevat--ing
To new levels
Constructed the
Master of Peace
Rest In Peace
This
Masterpiece
And you weren't gone
Any longer
Just the start
I Am Art
