I Am...determined to help children

What do you want to be's rained on her until she was drenched

She was swimming in the sea of where will you go's

The future loomed over her, ready to pour

Until she choked on its suffocating mask

Doubt lurked around the corners

Waiting with claws itching to snatch

The confidence she carried in a future

Made of independent steps

But with a clarity that empowers her being

And determination swelling inside

She bursts with an answer that is soaked in certainty

She knows she is here to help every child she can

She knows because looking at the world through the eyes of a child is a beautiful thing

The light shines through the breaks in the sky and fills their hearts

A child is cushioned by love and laughter sparkles their eyes

Children are amazing and in this world

They are the lucky ones

She knows because looking at the world through the eyes of a child is a terrible thing

They drown in the fog that settles

Death of their loved ones sucks at their soul until they are limp and sick themselves

Their ribs push through their skin as they dream of a scrap of food

In this world a child does not know what luck is

She is intent on keeping the light in the eyes

And bring it to those who have never had it

She is burning with the need to help at home

She is engulfed in the longing to help on foreign soil

Because looking at the world through the eyes of a child is beautiful for some

But it is her mission that it will be a beauty for all
