I Am...I am from

I Am...

I am from a Uhaul truck,

from Payless and McDonald’s dollar menu.

I am from the many adaptable apartments and houses.

I am from the busy city streets,

the weeds from the cracks in the concrete.

I am from the big family events and the fully tatted family members,

from Casper repping NC and Mousie from HMs and Blanca.

I am from the California, Iowa, and Colorado cities.

From the “How you been?” prison conversations and “Mommy misses you” late night secret visits .

I am from the Christian community. Going to church whenever we got up early enough.

I'm from San Diego, Mexico, and the Philippines, carne con chile and lumpia.

From the many different reasons behind my dad going to prison, the lies behind my parents leaving, and the bad roads my parents decided to go down.

I am from the lost family pictures.
