I Am...Obscure
Examine yourself through an objective lens.
What is it that you see?
Perhaps a strong, kind, brave individual.
Someone who is talented, charming, and destined for greatness.
Are you sure? Check again.
A streak of arrogance smears the glass.
Perhaps a pensive, obtuse, failure of a person.
Someone who will never make it anywhere no matter how hard they tried.
Are you sure? Check again?
A smudge of self-loathing blurs the lens.
What do I see when I look through the lens?
Even I am not sure.
Am I as intelligent as I would like to believe?
Am I as pretty, or compassionate, or creative?
I cannot say.
The lens I look through is smudge and streaked,
By what I do not know.
My vision is obscured and I cannot see.
Still, I will stumbled down the road we know as life.
I trip and fall, but always stand back up.
I may not be able to see who I am now,
But that doesn’t mean I cannot make my way towards who I want to be.
I am cloaked in a veil, and I continue to march on as best I can.
Perhaps one day I will be able to see,
An unshaded image of someone who is truly me.
