I am...Sam

I am Sam

Sam I am

I am more today

                than I was

yesterday

But I will be

more tomorrow.

I am Sam

                Sam I am

I am not a label

I am not a brand

I am an athlete

                not a jock

I get my homework done

but I am not a nerd

I am brown but don’t you

                dare call me Mexican

I play the guitar and play on stage

but don’t try to find the label for that

I am Sam

                Sam I am

I care about my family, my friends, my country, my world.

But I am no mama’s boy, no American Hero

Between my shoulders I wear a tattoo that proclaims

“I will sacrifice myself for those I love” – and I will

I am Sam

                Sam I am

I am more today

                Than I was

                                Yesterday.

                And I’ll be more tomorrow.

I am Sam.
