I Am...Scholarship Slams

But are we defined by our pasts and who we were?

Or perhaps it's something deeper and more obscure,

Like the progress we've made and challenges we've overcome...

Everyone can't handle me, There's only some-

That try to peel back the superficial layers, and see what's beneath the smiles and confidence

They want to crack the shell, and witness the real, but what they'll find is surprising

That there's so much more than what the eyes see.

Me? The real me, trust and believe that she-

Had to go through some things to make her who she is today-

Insecurity, doubt, and pain

But they built me, not broke me

And branded Strength on my back-

So now when trouble comes,

I don't step back.
