I am...What
I think,
Therefore I am
I am
Therfore I think
I'm Black.
Therefore I'm feared
I fear because I'm black
I hear violence, breathe opression,
With my eyes wide shut I see crying, not insurrection
But
My community rejects me
You don't act like us, talk like us, think like us
But I'll be targeted like you, I look like you, I struggle with you
NO
You're "African" they say
In there eyes I bang drums and chant the night away
But I respond
I am you
Just because my ancestors came on planes and not ships
Does not eliminate me from your pain and hardships
I struggle with you, I bleed with you,
Its not what I but what we've been through
Remember to the fuzz we are one and the same
Their eyes lack nuance, like broken window panes
They see me, they see you, they think," shoot!"
And self defense they will claim....
But remember we are one and the same
Like you, my people are slaughtered by our supposed protectors
Like you I toil to be one of the defectors,
From this broken system
Like you, I am you
Like me, you are I
But ultimately, we are we
