I Can Just Imagine- A Tribute to Troy Davis
I can just imagine
Those warlocks cracking their knuckles
Preparing to play God
Pretending they know how
I can just imagine
Those demons tweedling their thumbs
Oblivious to the cry of hundreds
Forging a document drenched in lamb’s blood.
I can just imagine
The people outside the walls of the halls that they call
“The Halls of Justice,”
Chanting “I AM TROY DAVIS. FREE AN INNOCENT MAN.”
But they never listen.
I can just imagine
That people would say, “eye for an eye.”
But… an eye for an innocent man?
I can just imagine
Those hyenas smirking in their polished suit
As their apprentices go collect their earnings,
Silently following behind to witness their own deaths.
I can just imagine
A weep, thoughts careening through a quiet and confused mind
As men solemnly enter to sweep him off the floor
To his lead role in his own tragedy
I can just imagine
Those cut-throats spitting off
His godforsaken eulogy as if he were on
A conveyor belt.
I can just imagine
Them standing on their pedestals
Trying to justify their murders.
He could have done it!
He had the ability to do it!
I can just imagine
The man trying desperately to rip off the straps
Realizing that he just might be out of time
Realizing that his own innocent life is about to end.
I can just imagine
Those blood-thirsty dogs cackling as they brandish
Their needle of injustice and plunge it into the lamb crying
HAHAHA DIE CRIMINAL DIE! YOU lose.
And I can just imagine
As he is struggling from the strangling
And as he is fighting for control of his body
He tries to scream cries of forgiveness
But the poison in his body has already done its purpose.
And I can just imagine
As his heart quietly slows down
And as his hands are laid down in rest
As people mourn and raise hands
Together as one
He looks on
He forgives
And he imagines what true justice could have looked like.
