I Cannot Lose

I want to travel to the farthest corners of this magnificent world, to experience things I could never have imagined while daydreaming in my bed at home, to live spontaneously, not to feel so tied down by restrictions and obligations. And I know this is a lot to ask, believe me, I know. And I know that life isn’t fair, and it never will be. Still, the fact of the matter is: we do not stay young forever. Life slows down and speeds up all at the same time- I do not understand how this happens, The days seem long, but the years seem short This is the mystery that is time It is not an object to be “figured out” But it is the ticking of the clock, the gentle crash of waves hitting a dock, the slow descent of the sun from the sky, the short life cycle of a house fly. Time is your life, the lives of people before you, the lives of people after you. Time is the present, the past, and the future- that vision we all have in our youth. So, who knows? That pure vision of magnificently colorful sunsets on the open road, of breathtaking views of otherworldly mountains and enchanting forests, of larger than life beauty that abides not so far from our doorstep, maybe that once so lucid vision will all slowly fade away with graduations and jobs and the future. The moment I realize that vision is gone- that is a moment in my life of which I dread- that is the moment I realize I have settled for less than that vision- that is the moment I accept that time has beaten me at its own game, and what a sad realization indeed.
