I Cannot Wait to Tell You

As I lay awake,

I let my thoughts consume my night with you by my side.

I slowly realize,

Over many moons seen through the skylight,

And many suns shaking me awake,

That I love you.

I know this because I not only miss you when I’m alone,

But when I enjoy myself without you.

I long for you to experience the joy I feel when I’m there and you are not.

I know you will make any experience more meaningful with you there.

I know I love you because,

I feel as though I’m walking on a cloud when you’re around,

Like nothing on the ground may reach me.

You bring me to my highest place in life,

Over and over again.

I can’t seem to think without you there helping me guide my thoughts,

You silence the voices I feel and hear with a simple touch of your skin,

The whisper in your voice,

The smell of your presence.

I know I love you because I choose to love you.

Not only can I feel the clench in my chest,

How my stomach does backflips when you’re around,

Or how I can’t even form a sentence when you stare at me for too long,

I love you because I want to love you.

I want to take care of you,

I want to make you feel the way you make me feel.

I want to show you through every action and thought.

One day,

You will love me too.
