I Can't Live Without My Running Shoes
I can't live without my running shoes.
Sounds like an interesting thing for me to choose?
My passion is going the distance, wherever it may take me.
I need my running shoes, to go outside, collect my vitamin D.
Six years ago, I joined my sport to love, track.
After the first season, I thought I would never go back.
The sprinting was difficult, the sweat getting into my eyes.
Not to mention those meet days; I thought they would be my demise.
After a couple of years, as my sprinting career was prolonging,
sophomore year of high school came, and I found my belonging.
Diane Fournier, distance coach, a woman to be respected.
She threw me into the two mile; my out-of-shapeness she corrected.
While I busted my ass at practice, running extra miles of my sparetime,
I would meet the greatest group of guys and girls; my friends for a lifetime.
They are supportive, kind-hearted, the fast people that I had to chase,
except when we ran together in the 800 meter relay race.
When they graduated, I was sad, my friends on to better things.
They told me that I need to keep working hard, and success is what it brings.
Now I'm a senior, days away from going out on my own,
my running shoes will stay will me, however, I will stay away from this rhyme zone.
