I Chose Me

“Because I love you, you should stay.

You should ignore whatever they’ve told you.

I love you, don’t listen to them.

I know I hurt you.

I know I betrayed your trust.

I know I cheated on you.

I still love you.

Stop saying I cheated on you.

Stop bringing it up.

You know I’m really beginning to hate you.

You’re ruining my life.

This is all your fault.

I don’t want you anymore.

Leave me alone.”

After everything I’ve endured,

I made the most difficult decision at that point in my life.

I chose to leave.

I chose the possibility of respect,

And cherishment, and the hope

That someone might actually treat me well.

Because I love you, I chose me.
