I Couldn't Tell You Why
I was convinced I couldn’t keep us alive
I persuaded myself that our relationship was full of deception
That I wasn’t worth your generosity and tenderness
I cut off 6 months of gentle hugs and warm smiles
I left 6 months of late night calls and never ending laughter
All because I couldn’t accept that I was enough
I repeated clichés I told myself I’d never say
I echoed every excuse said to me since the first ending
“It’s me, not you, I promise.”
I expressed my sleepless nights of insecurities and doubts
I saw your despair and confusion with every word
You needed an explanation, one I couldn’t provide
I am sorry, Em.
I should’ve told you why
