I Did Anyway

The day it happened I knew it was a bad idea Knew it would never work I was only a kid but I knew it was a dangerous game But I just kept on playing He’s always gone He’s never here He’s much too old He shows no fear I knew I shouldn’t love him But I did anyway Now it’s been so long But I still feel the same But what he doesn’t know Is that my feelings never left after they came He’s always gone He’s never here He’s much too old He shows no fear I knew I shouldn’t love him But I did anyway Now I’m standing in the shadows Hurt and alone Knowing there’s no hope But still hoping when he comes home He won’t be gone He’ll stay right here He’ll hold my hand There’ll be no fear ‘cause he’ll say I know I shouldn’t love you But I do anyway
