I Died
Last week I wanted to die
I’ve wanted to die for seven months actually
Last week I tried
Last week I lived
Monday I drowned
I let my nose slip below the water in the tub
I breathed in the sudsy water
But then I sat up
Tuesday I took too many pills
I swallowed the whole bottle at once
I let the empty plastic hit the tile
But then I spit it all into the sink
Wednesday I drove into oncoming traffic
I steered right across the yellow lines
I ignored the blaring horns
But then I jerked the wheel the other way
Thursday I suffocated myself
I tied the plastic bag around my neck
I let the oxygen escape me
But then I ripped the bag off
Friday I cried
I decided to live
I prayed
Because dying won’t save me, you will
Any time I came close
You came closer
Every time I took my last breathe
You breathed my next
I thought I would die
Because you left me
But you left me
So you could save me
