I don't sing for you

I don’t sing for you

to make the skies open or the stars f

to turn the world over                          a

                                                            l

not even to make the sun rise                    l

I sing for

          beauty

I sing for

          happiness

I sing for the simple joy of being alive

I don’t sing for you

When I sing I am

                powerful

                     beautiful

notes pouring from me in waves.

the world slides away

and the empty silence is my canvas

where I have the power to paint

over your words

your judgements

your nonsense

over the masses with no faces, fooling themselves into believing that they will be seen if they all wear the same mask.

When I sing

I am the single voice above the hum.

Time slows until my pulse is the beat

and I am an instrument playing my way through the score

I am too loud to hear you

I am in that moment

Flawless.

And I don’t sing for you.
