I Finally Belong

I stand in the doorway paralyzed

Afraid I'll do or say something wrong

I haven't said a word, yet I can tell I'm already despised

But all I want is to feel like I belong

The voices in my head tell me I'm no good

And the people's conversations agree with my thoughts

All my life I've never felt understood

So once again my stomach whirls into knots

My fingers begin to go numb

As I am filled with stress

Into the room I am told to come

I'm sure everyone thinks I'm a mess

I sit down and I'm told the seat is taken

I find another and try to hide my face

For they will never know how much I'm truly aching

And how much I want to leave this place

Even though I want to run out screaming

I think of the years ahead

And I begin dreaming

Of a time where I'm not filled with dread

And I know that a time will come along

When I finally belong
