I Finally Found My Voice..
I finally found my voice, and it wasn’t on a sunny Sunday. I found my voice in Lionel Richie, because life was never easy like a Sunday. It was more of a mourning. Grateful for every Holiday that I get to see because ladies really do sing the blues, and no I don’t ball but if I ever fall in love I pray that its with you. You see I’m not afraid to stand up and fight back, I’ll have the whole crowd screaming No Ms Sophia No, violet, lilac, you know.. the color purple. Oh yes, I like that. Because its my favorite color. Royalty. No Queen of the damned but I’m sending a four page letter, and I’m enclosing it with a kiss. Proclaiming my freedom this is something you wouldn’t want to miss. Queen no Latifah. I found my voice in – U.N.I.T.Y, U.N.I.T.Y it’s a unity.. but as I get older I realize theres no you and me, because often times we are alone.
Gold.. from the tips of her toes to her hair follicles this Cleo shall rock a fro. There fire within her words the fuel lies within her flow. And if you need to cool down then ask Frank where to go. Because just as my ancestors to the ocean I’ll sow a seed into the earth it’s a birth of a nation and greatness will be born if you just have the patience. I keep my pencils like iron sharpen, I like my men like my night darken. Denizel no Washington, didn’t see the prophecy of the white house being black, but if a prince can marry a country bumpkin then all things are possible, believe that. And just as Boaz my man shall be on fire for me too, and I shall free my people with the gift of voice like my girl Ester did for the Jews. Listen.. Blood is what made this country rich, so please baby no diamond cuts on my wrists.
I found my voice in ms. Badu. Because she taught me how to go on and on and on and on even when I didn’t know what to do. You see peace and blessings manifest when I pray up to my saviors name, born with $3 6dimes so you know its not in vain. And blood often stains Krimson, no Kreme. Theres nothing right nor pure about innocent killings. And yet I found my voice in the innocence of a child. Because when I see Lydi and Layla they just make me so proud. And no I’m not a fighter, more of a lover I never proclaimed to be. But if you cross my Mother, Father, baby bro, baby sis oh yes you’re gonna have to answer to me. Because I found my voice in being a protector you see.
Yes its true I am my brothers keeper, I’m more Abel no Cain. And when you fall for me its sweeter than honey mixed with the smoothness of the brothers with the canes. Just call me Yo Baby, because I can make you better. And I can intoxicate you to the point of reaching new levels.
Listen.. I found my voice in No’s from society, the simplicity of sobriety, I found my voice in childhood speech inpediment classes because this voice wasn’t always strong and I found my voice in my grandmother’s willpower to fight on. I found my voice in little boys pretending to be men, sexism, discriminations, and blatant disrespect. I found my voice in black history so that we may never forget. I have finally found my voice, and its gonna be hard to keep me quiet. I have finally found my voice and I shall never be silenced.
