I Grew Without Sunlight

I grew without sunlight

I grew with the pain

I grew without love

I grew with the abandonment

I grew without a home

I grew with the cotton

I grew and I grew and I grew

I grew so much, I even grew through you

I grew without and without and without

My body, ever so broken by the drought

But through it all I still grew

right into the Woman you never knew
