I Guess It Wasn't Real

I guess it was too easy.

I guess for something to answer my every prayer,

Dream

Wish,

It has to be harder.

For it to give so much

It has to take that much more.

I guess I slept to soundly.

Love is sleepless nights.

I guess I was too content.

Love is tears and sighs.

I guess I was too stubborn.

Love changes you.

Paint purple under my eyes

If that’s what it takes.

Yank out my heart

And return it bruised.

Chisel my soul

Until it is a stranger

To me.

But not to him.

I am more than willing.

So make it hard.

But make it real.
