I had the year before

I lost my heart the year before

to a girl with a pocked face and a kind smile

this year, I saw her once

and I thought to myself

I am glad that she is happy.

I had a plan the year before

A place, a time, a future

this year, I looked at my careful diagrams

and I thought to myself

There might be a better way.

I had a friend the year before

a darling jewel of memories and futures

this year, she smiled at me

and I thought to myself

Perhaps,

She will always stay.
