I Have to Ask
I Have to Ask
Andrew Nielson
I have to ask, my darling dear,
Why do you stay, year after year?
I have no money, we’re scraping by,
Can’t find a job, I don’t know why.
These years of debt are piling up,
Car, mortgage, important stuff.
But wouldn’t you be happier sweet-pea,
With someone who were richer than me?
I try my best just to provide,
For you, my sweet, by my side.
So why, my sweetheart, do you stay?
When I, myself, could never pay
To fill your wants, needs, and desires.
Why don’t you leave for someone higher?
Because I love you, my darling dear,
I’ll never leave, you needn’t fear.
We have enough, we can make do,
You’ll find a job, if I know you.
These bills and things will all work out,
We’ll make it through, so don’t you pout.
Trust me, I’m happy with you sweet-pea,
You mean much more than money to me.
You do enough to make ends meet,
I’ll never leave your side, my sweet.
That’s why, my sweetheart, that I stay,
Year after year, day after day.
You’re what I want, need and desire,
I couldn’t leave for someone higher.
