I heard a sound

I heard a sound. When I wasn’t quite listening And the entire world was peaceful and things were going well I heard a sound from a place which I had never seen before The sound moaned and cried and grew until it was smothered and faded to darkness and was oppressed until the new day Then after being drowned in the ocean of inequality it rose again and cried louder than before this sound continued and fought and strived And many who cried risked their lives to be loud and this sound could no longer be suppressed See it was too fierce and too driven to be silenced ever again Now I am listening And I hear the anguish in its cry I see the hunger in its eye for the right to fly And this sound which rose from mouths of Gods creations That have been pushed down and trampled, it was enormous. It rang from all over and it grew and it lived. I hear the sound now and I hear the peace in its song. To ever hear a sound cried so, it must have a need A need to be heard I know that someday this sound will rejoice For those who hear this sound will stand up and scream And cry out so loud that its music will be seen When I wasn’t quite listening this sound was so whispered that each day passed and my ears never heard But I began to listen and my heart did as well And I began to hear the pain from inside This sound was so muffled and smothered by flames But someday it will be heard from sea to sea And sky to sky as freedom reigns
