I Hide My Beauty Well

I hide my beauty well

My baggy sweatshirt

A cloak of invisibility

Protecting me

From being seen

For beneath it

I am a silence

Oppressive, deafening, overbearing

Fragile, delicate, fractured

Even the smallest whisper

An intrusion

I hide my beauty well

My unruly hair

A rat's nest

Hiding me

From being seen

Though beneath it

I am a melody

Shifting, pulsing, straining

Encompassing, feeling, evoking

A song yearning to be heard

And danced to

I hide my beauty well

My boxy glasses

A mask of deception

Keeping me

From being seen

But beneath them

I am a galaxy

Crashing, destroying, colliding

Spinning, creating, shining

A star burning as brightly

As any other
